Objective:

To evaluate the impact of AI ambient scribes on physician productivity, workflow satisfaction, and EMR challenges in oncology clinics.

Key Findings:
  • AI scribe use increased mean patient visits per day from 16.63 to 18.45 (P < .01).
  • Mean total fees per day grew from $7,101.60 to $7,893.70 (P < .01).
  • Physicians reported spending more time with patients and less time on documentation post-AI scribe implementation.
  • Increased satisfaction with EMR documentation process and fewer EMR-related challenges were reported.
Interpretation:

AI scribe implementation can enhance productivity and workflow satisfaction without negatively impacting work-life balance or documentation quality.

Limitations:
  • Only 76% of physicians completed the baseline survey and 64% completed the follow-up survey.
  • The study was conducted at a single center, limiting generalizability.
Conclusion:

AI scribes can streamline documentation workflows, leading to increased productivity and improved physician satisfaction in oncology settings.
