Many patients want to be active partners in their care, researching to understand their diagnosis and treatment as much as possible. However, increasingly, much of that information is coming from popular chatbots, such as ChatGPT. Sometimes the recommendations are reasonable or close to accurate; other times, the chatbot is confidently wrong, but the patient believes in its accuracy. Either way, the patient expects a tailored and thoughtful response, and oncologists must meet their patients where they are without shutting them down.

In this candid, communication-focused webinar, speakers Sanjay Juneja, MD, and Roupen Odabashian, MD—both known for their work translating oncology to broad audiences—will walk through how to handle those conversations with intention and care. They will provide the audience with practical tips on what to say as well as what to avoid saying, and the nuances of each situation.

The faculty will also address what oncology professionals should understand about the tools themselves, including how the model a patient happens to use shapes the answer they receive, how quickly chatbots are catching up with medical knowledge, and the importance of patient consent whenever AI is applied to an individual's care.

Together, Drs. Juneja and Odabashian will help oncology professionals feel prepared the next time a patient enters a clinic visit with AI-sourced medical advice in hand.

The session will conclude with live Q&A, giving attendees the opportunity to raise scenarios and questions from their own practice.
